Developing New Drugs and Vaccines for Neglected Diseases of the Poor: Product Developer Landscapes

Using collected and reviewed data from the BIO Ventures for Global Health (BVGH) Global Health Primer, a new document has been compiled to shed light on the different types of organizations that are participating in product development for a broad range of neglected diseases. The results of this analysis are detailed in a new report, "Developing New Drugs and Vaccines for Neglected Diseases of the Poor: The Product Developer Landscape", available at the link above.

Scholarship for MSc Clinical Trials by Distance Learning

Applications are invited for one scholarship to study the Distance Learning MSc Clinical Trials (CT) course commencing October 2012. This scholarship is offered by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). The scholarship covers full tuition fees to study the Distance Learning MSc Clinical Trials, and a contribution towards local examination centre fees.

Criteria for the scholarship

This MSc Clinical Trials scholarship is available only to a student who is a national of, and resident within, a Low Income country.

Applicants will be assessed on the following criteria: the academic merit of the applicant (at least a 2:1 or equivalent first Honours undergraduate degree), at least two years' proven work experience in the Clinical Trials field, how the skills and qualification obtained from the MSc Clinical Trials would benefit both the applicant and their institution, with respect to current and/or future employment; and
impact on the development of the applicant's home country.

World TB Day 2012: Strengthening tuberculosis research in Africa

On the occasion of World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, 24 March 2012, the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) has published a short video that highlights some of the EDCTP funded TB research in sub-Saharan Africa.

In addition, this article presents several areas of development: new diagnostic tools, shorter treatment periods, prevention of TB, and safe treatment combinations in TB-HIV co-infected patients.

Three Scholarships for MSc Clinical Trials by Distance Learning

Applications are invited for three scholarships to study the Distance Learning MSc Clinical Trials (CT) course commencing October 2012. These scholarship are offered by the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP). The MSc Clinical Trials course is run by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), in collaboration with the University of London International Programmes.

Global Polio Eradication Initiative

The Global Polio Eradication Initiative is a public-private partnership led by national governments and spearheaded by the World Health Organization (WHO), Rotary International, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Its goal is to eradicate polio worldwide.
