The African Society for laboratory medicine has been exchanging ideas with Dr Peter Piot, co-discoverer of the ebola virus and keynote speaker at the ASLM2014 conference, which will be in Cape Town, RSA. Piot describes his discovery of the ebola virus, and what lessons can be learnt from Nigeria, and what the role of the laboratory response can be during outbreaks.
