Introducing the Rwanda Medical Journal

We are pleased to introduce a new journal of the Bioline family--the Rwanda Medical Journal. RMJ was added to Bioline in May and is being published by the Rwanda Biomedical Centre. It features articles on health care in Rwanda, and aims to cultivate discussion on health issues between health care professionals and academics alike. Abstracts are available in both English and French.

Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine - PGDip (Pharm Med)

This 2-year, part-time course is a joint venture between the Division of Pharmacology, Department of Medicine at the Stellenbosch University Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Tiervlei Trial Centre. It aims to equip students with a thorough understanding and knowledge of new drug development and the principles of clinical pharmacology; pharmaceutical development and safety pharmacology; the planning and execution of clinical trials; clinical epidemiology, ethics, statistics and data management, as well as pharmacovigilance, pharmaceutical marketing and economics of health care.

The modular format and course structure (i.e. 3 full days every quarter) were specifically adopted to accommodate part-time students and those from out of town. The course is open to students preparing for the Dip Pharm Med examination of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine (UK). Each module is also offered as a stand-alone short course. It has received Affiliate status by the EU IMI initiative PharmaTrain (http://www.pharmatrain.eu/).

This paper seeks to estimate visceral leishmaniasis (VL) burden in Bangladesh, India, and Nepal and document care-seeking behaviour for VL to provide baseline information for monitoring the VL elimination program and identify options for improved case finding and management.
