Methodological research into the design, do, analysis and reporting involving trials is essential to optimize the process. UK specialists within the field have established a set of best priorities in aid of the research. These priorities, but may not be reflected in the requirements of similar research within low- to middle-income nations (LMICs) with different healthcare supply, resources and research facilities. The aim of the study was to determine the top priorities for methodological research in LMICs to share with further research and eventually to improve clinical trials during these regions.
An online, two-round study was conducted from Dec 2016 to April 2017 amongst researchers and methodologists working on trials in LMICs. The first round required individuals to suggest between 3 and six topics that they felt were priorities with regard to trial methodological research within LMICs. The second round asked participants to grade the value of a compulsory list of subjects suggested by four or even more individuals, and an optionally available list of the remaining topics.
Units 1 and 2 had been completed by 412 as well as 314 participants, respectively. A broad spread of years of encounter, discipline, current country associated with residence, origin of tests training and area of participation in trials was documented. The topics deemed most significant for methodological research had been: choosing appropriate outcomes in order to measure and training associated with research staff.
By showcasing these top priorities we now have the foundations of a worldwide health trials methodological investigation agenda which we hope will certainly foster future research within specific areas in order to improve and improve trials within LMICs.
