Traditional medicines are very popular all over the world, but there has been relatively little clinical research on them. Much of the clinical research which has been done has not been of sufficient quality to be published. Yet there is huge potential to develop useful and affordable treatments for a wide range of illnesses.

The Multidisciplinary University Traditional Health Initiative is a project to strengthen the capacity for research on traditional medicine in African Universities. We conducted a training needs assessment of African researchers earlier this year and organised a workshop which was held at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa in November 2011. We hope to make our training materials available online soon. Meanwhile we would be interested to hear from anyone doing - or planning to do - a clinical trial on any form of traditional medicine. What are the particular issues that you find difficult and in which you would like to receive training?

We also hope that those who attended the workshop in Cape Town will join this group and will give updates on their progress and challenges they encounter. We aim to provide mentoring and support to researchers in Africa who are planning or running clinical trials on traditional medicines.

Hi has anyone embarked on any trials on the above medicine yet?
If so I would appreciate hearing about the progress, highs and lows of the trial.
