I am a clinician and have currently volunteered to work in remote
areas.I am keen to ask if the members would like to suggest an
algorithm for evaluation of anemia in remote and low resource areas.

    Hi Sandeep.

I think it depends where you are and how big the problem is. Also what is your question about anaemia? Eg if you're in Africa then the combination of parasites, malaria and dietary insufficiency probably account for most of it - and then your anaemia algorithm might just be about identifying those with the worst numbers and aim to fix and ainm to fix and monitor these pts. Plus your numbers of pts are huge. On the other hand if you are say on a remote island where anaemia is uncommon then the question is more to do with evaluating the cause and then treating, and since numbers are small a different approach might be better.

I do a lot of remote medical work in diverse parts of the world and generally no one algorithm ever fits every place as needs, causes, diagnostic resources etc are all different.
