The m-DOT HU trial is a pilot phase II randomised trial investigating the acceptability and efficacy of mobile based technology of directly observed therapy (m-DOT) to increase adherence to low fixed dose HU treatment in adult Tanzanian sickle patients. The trial is also designed to assess the safety and efficacy of this HU treatment strategy in our setting.The Job: A Medically qualified person is required to manage the above trial (total trial duration 8 months) and is expected, with supervision from the Senior Investigators (London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, University of Pittsburgh, USA & MUHAS), to write up the data in a manuscript to be submitted to an international, high impact, research hematology journal as the lead author. The position is expected to be for 13 months.
The person: The person must have a strong commitment to pursue a career in clinical research. An interest in clinical hematology would be an advantage. The person must be able to demonstrate the leadership skills, diligence, and attention to detail that is required to lead the conduct of this short clinical trial within the required time-frame. Additionally the person must be able to demonstrate scientific writing ability and basic analytical skills.
Essential requirements:(1)Degree of doctor of Medicine (MD) and completed internship; (2) At least 1 years clinical research experience and an excellent academic record during medical training; (3) Excellent written and spoken English and Kiswahili; (4) Computer literate.
