Global Health Trials is delighted to announce a new competition in celebration of International Clinical Trials day. One lucky winner will win attendance for one, including flights and expenses, to the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) meeting ‘Measuring Progress’ in Oxford, UK, on 25-27 September 2014. The winner and two runners-up will also win one-year fellowships with the RSTMH, which include online access to Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and International Health as well as discounted rates on all RSTMH meetings.
 
In celebration of clinical research around the world, to enter this competition you can send us either a two-minute video you have made (you can use your smartphone) OR a photo-board (up to fifteen photos) on one of the following three topics:

1. A day in the life of our clinical trial(s)


2. How we are building research capacity in our health facility


3. My health research career

An important aim of this competition is to celebrate and recognise the quantity and diversity of clinical trials that are being conducted around the Globe. Therefore please tell us (the Global Health Network community) about the trial that you are working on. Your colleagues in other countries and research sites are very interested to hear real-life stories of how trials are conducted. It would be excellent to meet you and your colleagues and learn about your work and the challenges that you face. Videos will be judged on content rather than image quality, so don’t worry if you are using a video phone or aren’t sure about editing.You should also send an accompanying paragraph, no longer than 300 words, explaining why you want to attend the conference and how it would benefit you. The competition is now closed.
 
The entries will be placed online on Global Health Trials, and the winning entry will be played at the RSTMH meeting. To view more information about the meeting, follow this link:

To enter this competition you must:1) Be working in a research role (for example, as an investigator, nurse, field worker, lab technician or data manager, etc)
2) Currently be working in a low or low-middle income country as defined by the world bank.
3) Be a member of the Global Health Network (if you’re not already, just sign up now – it’s free – at https://globalhealthtrials.tghn.org/signup/).
4) If your video contains any footage of the trial participants please send an accompanying statement explaining that you have their permission to use this film for research training purposes.
 
You should send:1) Video or photo-board on one of the three topics specified, in English
2) Your name, email address, job role, research site/place of work, and your location
3) A paragraph of around 300 words explaining why you want to attend the conference and how it would benefit you and your research facility.
 
How to Enter:You should upload the video to YouTube (it’s free to create your own username), but if you have problems and prefer to use a dropbox, just let us know.Once you’ve uploaded your video, post the URL, along with your personal information and supportive paragraph into Global Health Trials’ articles library at: https://globalhealthtrials.tghn.org/articles/upload/.

Entry into the competition confirms that you agree with the terms and conditions specified below.
 
Terms and Conditions

1. The first prize winner will win: return flights (economy) to England from their destination for one person; transfers to and from airport; local accommodation in Oxford; attendance to conference and conference dinner; living expenses up to a maximum of £25 per day for four days. Expenses are payable within approximately thirty days, upon receiving invoices from the winner. Please note that per-diem rates will not be paid.


2. All applications will be judged by The Global Health Network. A short list will be taken forward to a judging panel of senior researchers and the winners will be announced in mid July 2014.


3. Applications are to be sent following instructions shown on the competition advertisement and are to be received by 30th June 2014


4. The award winner will be introduced at the Conference and will be asked to give a 5 minute acceptance speech.


5. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that they have permission to video or photograph their research site, and permission from anyone who appears in their photos or videos.


6. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that they correctly reference, credit and acknowledge any images or music used in the video.


7. The Global Health Network/Global Health Trials may use all material submitted to the competition in future research and for sharing/embedding on The Global Health Network.


8. The winner of the competition will be responsible for obtaining a business visa for travel to the UK. The Global Health Network/Global Health Trials can send a letter of invitation but will take no further part in obtaining the visa. If the winner is refused a visa, the prize will be forfeited.


9. No cash alternative is available for competition winners.


10. Judge’s decision is final.


11. The entry must be your own work (so for example, you cannot use a promotional video which was professionally made about your research site). Only one entry per individual.
