Chatham House, in partnership with the Asfari Foundation, is pleased to invite applicants for the Academy Asfari fellowships at the Academy for Leadership in International Affairs at Chatham House.
The Centre on Global Health Security at Chatham House will host an Academy Fellow who can take part in its project on Antimicrobial Resistance. The Centre is working on finding out what can be done to mitigate the spread of resistant infections, extend the effectiveness of current treatments and develop new antibiotics and vaccines to address the problem.
Despite heightened awareness and interest in the issue and the recognition that antibiotic resistance is a matter of global concern, this has not yet translated into putting antibiotic resistance on the agenda across all related sectors –human, animal, the environment and trade. The experience, approaches and policies in dealing with this phenomenon in low- and middle-income countries and emerging economies is one which needs particular attention.
The Fellowships will be open to citizens from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria. Candidates should be engaged in, or working with, civil society in these countries, whether they come from academia, NGOs, business, government departments, the professions or the media.
We are hoping to host an Academy Fellow who could work on how antimicrobial resistance affects their country/region, and who can help formulate strategies and policies to be developed across the human and animal sectors at the regional and global levels.
The deadline for applications is Sunday 1st June 2014. The Fellowship will begin in September 2014 for Fellows (lasting 1 year), and either in September 2014 or February 2015 for Senior Fellows (lasting 6 months).
