Franklin Simões de Santana Filho

About: Researcher and medical doctor at the Foundation for Tropical Medicine – Dr. Heitor Vieira Dourado in Manaus (Brazil), with special interest in the areas of malaria, HIV and viral hepatitis. He is also an assistant professor at the Infectious and Parasitic Diseases Department of the Faculty of Medicine at the Federal University of Amazonas. He received his MSc. in infectious and tropical diseases at the State University of Amazonas – Brazil. His primary research field is malaria with research emphasis on drug resistance. For the last six years he has been an external medical collaborator for the National Malaria Control Programme/ Ministry of Health of Brazil (MH) working in partnership in a multicenter project to evaluate the resistance of malaria parasites to antimalarial drugs in Brazil - RAVREDA – The Surveillance Network for Antimalarial Drug Resistance in the Amazon. Since 2004 his research line on P.vivax drug resistance in Manaus (Brazil) has been evaluating in vivo efficacy of antimalarial drugs.
