About: Dr Ajoy Kumar Verma working as Senior Specialist, Senior Administrative Grade, Department of Microbiology, National Institute of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease (NITRD), New Delhi, India for the past 24 years. He is actively involved in diagnosis, identification and susceptibility testing of mycobacterium tuberculosis and other Non- tuberculous mycobacterial species. He is working as Senior Microbiologist under the National Reference Laboratory, under the National TB Elimination Program and Centre of Excellence TB Laboratory under WHO. Dr Ajoy Kumar Verma is working as Quality Manager in NABL accredited Mycobacteriology Laboratory at NITRD, New Delhi, India. Dr. Ajoy is responsible for conducting on site evaluation of Laboratories and providing technical support for undertaking sputum smear microscopy, mycobacterial culture and drug susceptibility testing under the External Quality Assessment (EQA). Also, facilitating the training program for scaling up of newer diagnostic techniques, i.e. MGIT -960, Line Probe Assay, Gene Xpert for MDR-TB diagnosis under the NTEP program. Dr. Ajoy is continuously working on Non-Tuberculous Mycobacteria and currently Principal/Co-investigator in newer Tb diagnostics and NTM research projects. His main area of interest for research are on newer diagnostics of tuberculosis and teaching and training of newer Tb diagnostics.
