Marguerite Massinga Loembé

About: Marguerite Massinga Loembé is a researcher with substantial field experience in Immunology and Clinical Research in Africa. In 2004, she undertook an Epidemiology post doctoral training in Benin as a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) fellow. She was involved as basic researcher, laboratory director and/or coordinator in numerous studies investigating prevention of HIV and STIs, mucosal immunity to HIV, and a phase III multicentric microbicide gel (cellulose sulfate) trial. She contributed to programmatic support for epidemiological surveillance of HIV/STIs, organized laboratory capacity building for molecular diagnosis of STIs, and provided training on laboratory activities for HIV/STIs prevention trials in the scope of a Canadian Global Health Research Initiative in Benin. From 2007 onwards, she worked on HIV and TB co-infection and immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) in Uganda. She served as advisor/trainer for the implementation of fluorescence microscopy for TB diagnosis in Kampala City Council clinics as part of the INTERACT activities portfolio. Since July 2011, she has taken an appointment with the Medical Research unit at Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Lambaréné, Gabon as senior immunologist in charge of the research laboratory, where she oversees basic research, training and provides technical support to ongoing vaccine trials.
