About: I am a medical sociologist from Nigeria, with over eight years of interdisciplinary research, teaching, and field experience at the intersection of One Health, infectious and zoonotic diseases, social determinants of health, and health equity in low- and middle-income settings. He holds a PhD in Medical Sociology from the University of Uyo, Nigeria, PhD in Social Work Coursework Certificate, India, MSc Medical Sociology University of Uyo, Nigeria, and BSc (Hons) Sociology, Nigeria and have served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Medical Anthropology with the Institute of Genomics and Global Health under the SENZOR project funded by the Robert Koch Institute, German, where He led year-long ethnographic and mixed-methods fieldwork on human–animal contact and zoonotic risks across multiple Nigerian states. Dr. Assi has extensive experience in community-based surveillance, protocol development, grant-funded research management, and interdisciplinary collaboration, complemented by prior academic appointments in Nigeria and India. His scholarly output spans peer-reviewed journals and international conferences, with substantive contributions to health-seeking behaviour, aging and gerontology, occupational health, maternal and child health, and One Health social science. He is an active reviewer and editor for international journals, a member of the American Sociological Association and the One Health Commission (Social Sciences Working Group), and has received international basic training in genomics, and global health. Dr. Assi’s postdoctoral ambitions in Canada are driven by a strong interest in developing theoretically grounded, bridging the gap between biomedical sciences and social sciences, policy-relevant research particularly at the interface of One Health, health systems, and social inequalities under mentorship that values interdisciplinary collaboration and global health impact.
