Sarah Coy

About: Sarah provides research governance and support to the STEMBANCC project, facilitating the development of a regulatory framework and instigating best practice. Since joining HeLEX at the University of Oxford, Sarah has taken a lead in co-ordinating of a number of ELSI2.0 activities, including the 2014 Brocher Workshop on Data Sharing, and the ELSI2workspace hosted on this website. A geneticist by training, Sarah obtained her PhD from the University of Sheffield, investigating the regulation of gene expression during development, and conducted post-doctoral research at the University of Oxford into post-transcriptional control of gene expression. Before joining HeLEX, Sarah worked for 2 years at the secretariat for the UK Department of Health’s research portfolio; she worked closely with policy makers, monitoring research progress and advising on commissioning requirements, and managed a portfolio of 40 research projects. During this time Sarah led several funding rounds, sourcing expertise for selection panels and orchestrating the peer review process, and represented her organisation in the Public Involvement Collaboration Group, working with colleagues in INVOLVE and the wider NIHR to promote and support public involvement in research funding and commissioning.
