Information about IRB approval in Sri Lanka is available at the website of the Forum for Ethics Review Committees in Sri Lanka (http://www.fercsl.net) Currently there are 8 IRBs recognized by the Drug Regulatory Authority for IRB approval of clinical trials in Sri Lanka. They are the ethics review committess of the Faculty of Medicine University of Colombo; Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya;Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenapura; Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna; Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka Medical Association and the Medical Research Institute, Colombo. The Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo IRB was established in 1981. It is now recognised under the SIDCER recognition programme of the WHO. Clinical Trials in Sri Lanka can be registered in the Sri Lanka Clinical Trials Registry (http://www.slctr.lk) run by the Sri Lanka Medical Association.
