May 20th is International Clinical Trials Day - celebrated on this day that James Lind, thought to be the first ever trialist, initiated the first ever randomised trial back in 1747. Lind was working on a ship, the HMS Salisbury, and wanted to determine whether diet affected scurvy, so he randomised his subjects into two groups and supplemented one group with fruits, vegetables, and cider.

On this commemorative day, we would like everyone to share below their thoughts and ideas - why are you proud to be involved with trials? Please add your thoughts below.

    Hi All
I work in Oxford where we have a lot of clinical trials and other research going on.
My first experience of clinical research was many moons ago when I worked in the casualty department of Groote Schuur Hospital, looking at nebulised Atrovent for asthmatics.
I loved the autonomy of working as a research nurse, and was drawn back to research nursing five years ago - still in the Emergency Department. We have a small team of six part-time staff and manage a portfolio of 12 active studies across a wide range of disease areas.
And yes, I still love the setting up of studies, working with patients, other MDT members and the study coordinators.
