Exciting new public health opportunity - The Distance Learner Online MPH Scholarship

MPH Programs list have arranged an exciting new opportunity for an Online MPH only scholarship for international and developing countries. It's called ‘The Distance Learner Online MPH Scholarship’, and consists of two, $1000 scholarships per year. It is the first MPH Scholarship of its kind for distance only learning students offered by an external source.

• It is open to International & developing country students.


• Only online and hybrid programs qualify


• Apply by completing the online application (at link above), then sending on a 500-800 word essay on the topic specified


• $1,000 award can be used towards any qualified online master’s of public health program.

The purpose of the merit-based Distance Learner Online MPH Scholarship is to help public health students to pay for the costs of their education. It may be awarded to anyone who is currently enrolled or will enroll in the next six months in a graduate level, online master of public health program.
Students who are participating in any type of online MPH program may qualify for this program. Note: Campus-based MPH programs are not eligible for this scholarship. Hybrid programs – a combination of campus and online classes – are eligible for the scholarship.
Only master’s degree candidates qualify for the scholarship – bachelor’s degree and doctoral degree candidates do not qualify for the MPH scholarship.
All online MPH degrees and specializations will be considered, including but not limited to:

• Master’s of Public Health – General


• Master’s of Public Health – Epidemiology


• Master’s of Public Health – Biostatistics


• Master’s of Public Health – Nursing


• Master’s of Public Health – Social and Behavioral Sciences


• Master’s of Public Health – Environmental Health


• Master’s of Public Health – Health Policy and Management

Selection Criteria
Winning applicants for The Distance Learner Online MPH Scholarship are selected based upon the overall merit of their application and the quality of their scholarship essay. Financial need is not a consideration. The winners of the scholarships will be chosen by the administrative staff of OnlineMPHDegree.net, based upon the overall merit of their applications.
One half of the weight of the judging will be from the formal application, and one half will come from the written essay portion. The formal application criteria are:
GPA (min 2.75 on a 4.0 scale)
Extra curricular activities
Employment history
The criteria considered in the written essay is your ability to write a strong answer that directly answers the public health-related question, and gives insights based upon facts to support any claims you make.
Foreign Students: Students located outside of the United States must be enrolled in a program before being considered.
Essay Question
The 500-800 word essay for the 2013 The Distance Learner Online MPH Scholarship (deadline January 1, 2014) will ask the MPH candidate to address the following:
What led you to choose public health as an area of study and how you hope to contribute to this field upon graduation from your school/program?
