Recently published in the BMJ, this paper calls for all funding institutions and investigators who have conducted abandoned trials to publish or republish their studies within the next year. A minimum set of criteria are outlined regarding responsible publication and republication of abandoned trials and a RIAT audit tool (called RIATOR) based on the CONSORT checklist for reporting randomised trials has been developed to assist in this.
