The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation today announced the latest set of grant awards for the Grand Challenges Explorations program. Additionally, the Gates Foundation and its partners have a number of currently open opportunities. These awards and opportunities are described below.
Grand Challenges Explorations Round 10 grants announced:
Over 50 new grants of US$100,000 each will be made to investigators from 18 countries and mark the tenth round of funding from Grand Challenges Explorations, an initiative seeking to lower the barriers for testing innovative ideas in global health and development. Also announced was additional funding of up to US$1 million each for four Grand Challenges Explorations projects to enable grantees to advance their work. Please read the press release at

Gates Fellows program now recruiting:
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is excited to announce the newly created Gates Fellows program. Fellows will work in close collaboration with foundation employees to support research, evaluation of strategic priorities, grant projects, and initiatives. Additionally, Fellows will have broad access to mentoring from world class leaders and opportunities to leverage the foundation¹s network. Applicants are required to have an advanced degree, such as MD, PhD, PharmD (scientific disciplines highly encouraged), or MBA with backgrounds in management consulting, investment banking, private equity or venture capital, and 7-10 years of related professional experience. Those that meet these qualifications and also have experience in global health or development are highly encouraged to apply.

Stars in Global Health program now accepting applications:
Grand Challenges Canada is seeking proposals for Stars in Global Health, a program looking for innovators with bold ideas with big impact to address real-world global health challenges. Improving Nutrition Outcomes through Optimized Agricultural Interventions program still accepting applications:
The Agricultural Development and Nutrition teams at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are now accepting letters of inquiry for the development of a consortium with both agricultural and nutrition expertise, and with the mandate of ³Improving Nutrition Outcomes through Optimized Agricultural Interventions² in Africa.
