Fortis healthcare is the pioneer in the field of providing fully dedicated health services in Mumbai. Fortis Institute of Nursing (FIN) stands tall as their only educational body under auspices of Fortis educational society, Mumbai committed to providing quality education to nurses. In this blog I am writing about two Canadian students Ms Leonie Mattheau and Ms Vanessa Monterrey Dugre, 3rd year bachelor of nursing students from the University de Montreal for their internship at Fortis Institute of Nursing, Mumbai during the period Feb 2016 to May 2016.
Ms Vanessa did a study on primary care nursing practice in post natal mothers in India. Her study highlighted the importance of primary nursing care in maternal care follow up in the early post natal stage. This study mainly focused on contextual challenges associated with post natal visits in the surroundings of Mulund (Mumbai, India) by identifying barriers and enablers associated with the access to post natal care, emphasizing on primary nursing home care.
Another study was conducted by Ms Leonie Mattheau which focused on best primary care nursing strategies for the transition management of adults experiencing head and neck cancers from outpatient clinic to home in Mulund Mumbai.
Both Research studies were done under the guidance of Prof Bilkis , Ms Rita Lakhani Principal-FIN, Jyoti Chaudhary, REader, FIN, Ms Anisha Tony, Lecturer, FIN, and Robin Rodrigues, Clinical Instructor, FIN. During the course of their study they had interviewed many health care professionals, conducted various focused group interviews as a part of their data collection. In addition they have also conducted few journal club presentations at FIN.
Their internship ended on 3rd of May with a brief presentation of findings, which included enablers and barriers in their respective studies. They have also done critical review of literature and compared that data with the study findings.
