Checklist for data monitoring
This checklist has been contributed by Dave Sackett ( www.davesackett.com ), who
prepared it for the forthcoming 3rd edition of Clinical Epidemiology; A
Basic Science for Answering Questions about Health Care, to be
published by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins in 2005.
Can you justify not monitoring your RCT for safety, efficacy and
futility?
- If you decide to monitor your RCT:
- Specify the precise functions you want your monitor(s) to carry
out
- Establish requirements for monitor(s) in terms of expertise,
experience, and freedom from conflicts of interest.
- Recruit your monitor(s) and work with them to establish policies
and
procedures
- Get on with it.
