Data collection checklist
- Forms - always use the trial logos/colours
- Remember the primary outcomes
- The data being collected should aim to answer the key questions
–if
they don’t address the questions, don’t collect them
- Are the data being collected readily available?
- Find out what is routinely recorded and available and try to fit
your
trial around this (not always possible)
- Optimise data form design – consult the experts – experienced
trialists,
printers, illustrators, people who will fill them in
- Avoid free text fields, when possible
- Use simple questions with Yes/ No answers and tick boxes
- Avoid having to use photocopies – use self duplicating paper
(NCR)
whenever possible
- Do not expect the project to be as important to other people as
it
is to the trial team – make it simple and pragmatic
